Dr. Aaron Prillaman, D.M.A. has been playing guitar for 22 years. He began his formal musical studies at Appalachian State University under the instruction of Dr. Douglas James. After completing a Bachelors of Music in Guitar Performance, Dr. Prillaman was accepted into the Masters program at East Carolina University where he studied with Dr. Elliot Frank. Aaron Prillaman was chosen to be a graduate assistant in the guitar department at ECU, where he taught various classes including functional guitar, beginner guitar class, and applied guitar. From there Aaron moved to Tempe, Arizona for four years to work on his D.M.A. in guitar performance at Arizona State University with Frank Koonce.
Versatility
While classical guitar is Aaron’s main focus, he also enjoys playing electric guitar, and folk guitar. While living in Arizona, he was a part of countless public and private performances, both as part of an ensemble and as a soloist. After moving to North Carolina in 2012, he began work as a freelance musician and as the director of contemporary music at First United Methodist Church of Gastonia, NC. He is now the director of contemporary music at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville, NC.
Experience
Aaron Prillaman performs throughout the region (and occasionally throughout the country) as a solo classical guitarist and as part of chamber music groups. One of his favorite ensembles to play with is the Prillaman Duo which includes his dad, Glen Prillaman, on the piano. Dr. Prillaman is the applied guitar instructor at Mitchell Community College, and also teaches at Davidson County Community College.

I selected Aaron for a 25th wedding anniversary party. Aaron is the consummate professional. He is talented, flexible, and discreet. I am so glad I found Aaron on GigMasters. We met one time via telephone to review special requests and he fulfilled all of them-even checking in with me a week or so before the event to let me know he was able to handle all the songs I requested. He also provided top notch equipment to assist my son in singing a song. He makes good decisions on his own knowing what his clients might like. I would definitely recommend him for any event that would be complemented by the beautiful music of a classical guitarist...thank you, Aaron!!

Everything went perfectly. Aaron was perfectly accommodating and flexible. I would use him again or recommend him to others without even having to think about it. One thing that led us to choose Aaron over other guitarists was that his repertoire is truly classical. Other "classical guitarists" we talked to were really a mix of pop, rock, jazz, and show tunes. Aaron's repertoire was exactly what we were looking for.
